Asleep at the helm

So both president and the vice president are going to disappear for a while. Cheney is keeping a low profile while the SEC investigation into his tenure at Halliburton continues; and there's no way Bush is giving up his annual vacation in Texas. Now I actually do believe that powerful people need a vacation just like anyone; there will be plenty of television pics of Bush in cowboy gear consulting with his advisers; and his most recent public appearances have alarmed investors more than they have engendered confidence. Nevertheless, the administration is looking rudderless, and the absence of Bush-Cheney will only confirm that impression.
