Fiercely brilliant

Gogol Bordello -- which someone described last night as The Pogues in eastern Europe -- was all it was cracked up to be. The gypsy punk cabaret act played at the Bowery Ballroom. Eugene, the Ukrainian, can't sing, but he yells well, and he's a naked-chested sweaty moustachioed superstar madman. The violinist sounds like he's just time-tripped out of the shtetl into the Lower East Side. And the cabaret girls got my friend Sam -- who has a thing for uniforms -- all hot under the collar. Gogol Bordello are fiercely brilliant; see them next chance you get.Gogol Bordello
