The summer shutdown

Now here's why webloggers aren't going to replace newspapers any time soon. The writers just head off on vacation, and they don't even ask permission, or arrange cover. Matt Welch is covering forest fires; Glenn Reynolds on holiday; Dave Winer is taking it easy after surgery; Ken Layne playing Hemingway in Belize; and Evan Williams actually doing some software development work. Jeff Jarvis, who complains below that the blogosphere is feeling lonely, is himself heading off for vacation. The way they disappear en masse for the summer, anyone would think these guys were French.
Hello-o-o-o-o-o, anybody here-e-e-e-e-e-? [Jarvis]
