US bases in the Gulf
The New York Times rehashes preparations at the US headquarters in Qatar. This may be a naive question, but why does the US need four command centers? There's the Army in Kuwait, Air Force in Saudi Arabia, Navy in Bahrain, and Central Command in Qatar. All the generals should be in the same space, if this was truly to be an integrated campaign. And another thing: given modern communications, might as well conduct the war from the Gulf -- of Mexico. Much of the fighting will be at night; it might be quite convenient for the generals to be eight hours behind.
