The Atkins meme
The low-carb diet is taking Manhattan. You may remember how all those sceptical bloggers -- Searls, Layne, Nielsen Hayden etc -- were swearing by the Atkins. It's not just them. Manhattan restaurants are exploiting the fad, none more than French restaurants and steakhouses. "I'd say most of my customers and half of my staff are doing some version of Atkins," says Reed Goldstein, general manager of Angelo & Maxie's steakhouse on Park Avenue South.
